For my final I think I'm going to stick with the same idea I had for project 3. I really love the idea that music is cyclical, and expressing the emotions music provokes through art is right up my alley. Ill make 3 or 4 different pieces representing all different kinds of music that I'm interested in. The canvas sizes will be square (7.5x7.5) most likely. I plan to make the compositions abstract like project 3. Ill do a lot of sketching expressive likes and markings to scan in. Here are some of the songs i'm thinking of using.
Take Five- Dave Brubeck
Pilote- Shapeshifter Blues
Steffen Schackinger ElectriGuitaristry
Muse-Knights of Cydonia
Gorillaz-68 state

more process to come.

  1. This is a good idea, all of this can relate to each other with certain elements yet also be strong in their own individual existence. I think it will be important though to make sure the feeling or style of each one is different enough to represent those different feelings.

  2. I think that using abstract art to depict different genres of music will be a very interesting project once it is finished. Will you be making the expressive marks will listening to the song so that you get the "feel of the music" on paper? Possibly use different color palettes for different genres?

  3. I think your last pieces were super successful! I think it's a good idea to show the emotions of music. Everyone listens to music for different reasons! Your last pieces were really relaxing so it would be cool to capture the opposite with how metal music makes people feel. Good work! Can't wait to see the rest!

  4. Great idea! I loved how the sheet music piece turned out (the blueish one) and it would be really successful to have a whole series in that vein with different songs and their sheet music.

  5. I loved how your last project turned out and I am happy you are continuing this idea! Can't wait to see how they come out on canvases, I think they will make your project even more successful.

  6. Hi Elizabeth

Sound like a great idea. I think you are on to something. We really need to see something tangible in order to give you any honest feedback. A real challenge to convey music, the question becomes "what does a song like take 5 (for instance)" represent or symbolize?" Could it be about something other than abstraction? Can you hint at content somehow?

    Great idea.
